Rumors

I have for you today a handful of updates to satisfy your business news curiosity until next week, at which point I hope you will be back here for more.

Liquor update

Here’s a two-pronged bit of news that might come as a surprise. Cazuelas Mexican Grill in Greenbrier has also applied for a liquor license. It is located on North Broadview. This is, to my knowledge, the first time a restaurant in Greenbrier has applied for a private club permit.

Las Palmas, which was recently turned down for a private club permit and appealed, was approved on Wednesday. The Mexican restaurant is located in Conway Commons.

Here is a rumor that has been around the pond once or twice. Although it is a slippery one, and I cannot seem to get a hook in it, sources I trust seem confident it is true.

They say a Walmart Neighborhood Market is coming to the area between First Presbyterian Church and Morningside Drive. I do not have a timetable on this.

Walmart Neighborhood Market is basically a grocery store and pharmacy with some general goods and other things you might expect to see at a grocery store, like photo developing services. It is for people who don't want to go to the Walmart Supercenter people who want to grab a loaf of bread or something and get in and out quickly.

This week I received an e-mail from a reader wondering about a sign indicating a new Holiday Inn Express is coming to Sanders Road. This was confusing, because there is already a Holiday Inn Express right there.

I talked to the Conway planning department. Apparently, the franchise rights on the existing Holiday Inn Express are running out, and so the existing hotel will be re-branded and owner Ken Patel will build a new Holiday Inn Express. Apparently this is not at all an unusual practice in the hotel business.

If you are a fan of coffee, this is news for you.

A well-established espresso drink business has expanded and has big plans for the future. Ketchum's Cappuccino, owned and operated by Dale Ketchum, has been serving coffee in Conway in since 1993. Ketchum has been in a few different locations, including a year in the Hendrix student center and a year on Oak Street in the Halter building. For the past 10 years, he has operated at drive-through at 2125 Harkrider Street. He has catered to people on their way to work, who call in their order then swing by and pick it up on the way.
